by Adrian Tomine. A former long-time California resident, Adrian Tomine moved to New York City in 2004 and soon began producing portraits of his new home’s inhabitants. New York Sketches features fifteen full-color reproductions of these beautiful ink and watercolor drawings, each of which shows the artist’s unparalleled ability to document the kind of details we easily overlook: a stylish young mother and child are carefully scrutinized by a police officer; a seemingly content girl remains strangely motionless during four subway stops; a disgruntled worker kicks a chair while sweeping a restaurant floor. The images in this stunning portfolio are printed on finely-textured 130 lb. Cougar paper that has been accordion folded, allowing the images to be detached and framed or kept intact and displayed upright. New York Sketches is the only full-color project of new art from Adrian Tomine, one of the most respected cartoonists of our time.
